About Us

The University of Bristol is becoming well known for its uniquely diverse, welcoming and dedicated community of Jewish students. Our J-SOC is one of the fastest growing Jewish societies in the country with over 100 members having quadrupled in size over the last 5 years and is now regarded as the 5th largest JSOC in the UK.

The Bristol J-Soc is run by and for students for Bristol University and The University of Western England (UWE). The J-Soc committee works hard to ensure the atmosphere is always warm, inviting and lively. Together, we have created a close knit group of students from all different Jewish backgrounds. The Bristol Jewish society really is a family away from home! Throughout the year our J-Soc run events almost every day of the week so you will be sure to find something that suits you. We provide students with a mix of popular social events, interesting and interactive educational sessions and delicious Friday night meals, every Friday night!

Funding

Union of Jeiwsh Students Many of the events run by the J-SOC including the Friday night meals are funded partly by UJS (Union of Jewish Students) so that we can put on bigger and better events for all our members!

The Union of Jewish Student's (UJS) mission is: 'To create meaningful Jewish campus experiences and inspire Jewish students to make an enduring commitment to their Jewish identity, Israel and the community.' UJS serves as the sole communal body representing all Jewish students to the Jewish and wider community. As a Union directed by its members, UJS' priority is to meet the needs and demands of our members both individually and through Jewish Societies (J-Soc). Our primary focus is over fifty J-Socs throughout the UK. UJS offers each J-Soc the expertise, guidance and resources to enrich Jewish student life on campus.
